The title of the chocolate recipe I have chosen is called “Xocolatl.” As one would already have imagined, this ancient mesoamerican word sounds very similar to the word used in English ”chocolate” and that is because there is indeed linguistic relation between the two. Some historians have speculated that the word Xocolatl is a word from the Nahuatl language which meant a sour and/or bitter drink. This was used to describe how the Xocolatl drink tasted to the people who were consuming (and hopefully enjoying) the drink. To this very day, there are many people who continue to enjoy this incredibly strong-tasting chocolate drink, this includes but of course not limited to parts of the modern-day country of Mexico, with some states in the country having more consumers than others, and even here in the United States, where a new trend of food always shows up for people to freely partake in. This chocolate recipe is an ancient Aztec hot beverage that was fairly easy to be made. One thing

Chocolate and Sugar hypothesis

Image
There has been a theory within the circle of chocolate consumption that arises a few different questions. The first question is the following: is chocolate actually something that tastes delicious to most humans or does the extra added ingredients more specifically milk and especially the added sugar what makes it as tasty as it is? I would say that chocolate would still be popular to many people even without the sugar and milk, especially today when the trend of low-carb, low-sugar diets being incredibly popular. Of course, there would be many people who would not like the taste of actual chocolate being so bitter and not as sweet as conventional chocolate, but it is important to remember that there are many people who consume some other foods similar to pure chocolate which are also bitter without any sugar, or anything to make it sweet. One example of this could be with the people who consume black coffee. Coffee is fairly bitter but has an earthy taste. There was a time when studen

Cacao and white chocolate

Image
With regards to the very controversial topic of cacao and white chocolate actually being a form of chocolate, there is definitely much to be said, as well as many different arguments to be made for both arguments. First, we shall ask the following question “is white chocolate actually chocolate, or is it a fake type of chocolate?” One perspective is that chocolate could mean anything that uses cacao beans, in other words meaning that as long as the cacao beans are used, it does not matter what it is made into, and a certain percentage of cacao beans is being used. Today, there are many people who would consider white chocolate as a form of chocolate, here is one form of evidence to take into account, in a hypothetical situation of a person consuming a white chocolate candy bar (the most popular one being the Hershey’s brand) almost everyone would unanimously agree that that the person is indeed eating a chocolate bar. On the other hand, some other people would say that since the milk

J.S. Fry and Sons and their spread of chocolate

the thesis of this blog is the following: The very first Chocolate company in the entire world was called J.S. Fry and Son who popularized chocolate consumption through big business.” The first few questions that readers of this blog should ask themselves in order to better understand the thesis of this blog is the following: How did J.S. Fry and Sons further popularize chocolate consumption? How did big business help achieve this? With regards to the production of cacao beans into what it evolved to today known as the delicious candy called chocolate and its relation to how it is created and given to people today through the world of business there is definitely much to be said. Of course, it is important to remember that no matter one’s belief of how the economy should be run, or what economic system one would support or be opposed to, one thing that is objectively true is that the majority of the world operates on a for the profits-based system, chocolate is no exception, the reas

Cacao as a form of currency

Image
The thesis of this blog is the following: “Within the history of the various different usages of cacao, it has not been only a type of food, but has also been used as a form of currency.” The two questions that the readers of this blog should ask themselves in order to better understand it is the following: “What was the motivation for the Mayan people to use cacao beans a form of currency in their trade? Why was it so valuable to them that they felt the need to use this instead of something more traditional such as a precious metal?” With regard to the subject of cacao and how it has been used as a form of currency throughout its history, there is definitely much to be said. One interesting and similar comparison between cacao being used as a form of currency could be how many other people have used other natural resources which were viewed as valuables such as precious metals, instead of what is used today which are pieces of paper which governments enforce through laws mandating the

Cacao and religion

Image
The thesis of this blog is the following: “Cacao as well chocolate consumption have been viewed very positively in many different religions of the world.” The first question that readers should ask themselves when they are reading this blog is the following: Which religion(s) mention cacao at all?” With regard to the topic of cacao and how it has been viewed by various different religions, there is definitely much to be said. In order to begin talking about this topic, it is important to remember that with regards to the major religions of the world, beginning with Judaism, Islam, and the various different sects as well as denominations of Christianity, there are no mentions of chocolate in any of their holy books, be it the Christian Bible, the Quran, or the Hebrew Bible. The reason for mentioning this is because today when most people think of religion, they think of these three religions. Right away the reader should know this because these are the religions that people think of th

Chocolate as a medicine

The thesis of this blog is the following: “Chocolate is not only a food for pleasure, filled with sugar but rather a food which has a good number of health benefits.” There are a few questions that chocolate lovers should ask when the discussion of chocolate comes up. The first question is “what are the nutritional benefits to the health of a human being with regard to the consumption of chocolate?” The second question is “Can regular consumption of chocolate be detrimental to the health of human beings?” Answering the first question of this blog could be summarized by saying that yes indeed there are many health benefits of regular consumption of chocolate, but that is of course to go with saying that dark chocolate is much healthier than milk chocolate in most cases.   The reason as to why is that milk chocolate is mixed in with sugar, and while sugar is not always bad for us humans, and in some cases good for us, too much consumption of sugar is detrimental to our health, this is es
